OK, so in my previous post, I mentioned that I’ve been on a quest to find the BEST burger. In LA, a lot of people tend to say that Father’s Office has the best burger, others say it’s 8oz Burger, Five Guys, In n Out, Hamburger Mary’s, The Habit, and so on. I haven’t even mentioned the East Coast opinions, however, I must admit that BLT Burger in NY is outstanding!
I’ve been holding back my opinion for a while now, as all the burgers I’ve consumed on my quest have been delicious. Just today, I’ve sealed my #1 spot for best burger (at least in LA). This wasn’t a popularity contest by any means…I actually put a lot of criteria on my judging: flavor, cost, convenience/accessibility, consistency, and ingredients.
…and the winner is: Umami Burger!!
I went again to Umami for lunch for one final decision for this endeavor. I really wanted to focus on my criteria.
Was the flavor spot-on? Yes. The original Umami burger is bursting with flavors that make your mouth water. They really DID accomplish the fifth taste!
Was the burger affordable? Yes. For a gourmet burger, $10 isn’t unreasonable considering you’re getting high quality beef, a homemade brioche bun, shitake mushrooms, parmesan crisp, and the house made Umami ketchup.
Was the restaurant convenient and accessible? Yes. They have very reasonable valet parking ($2.50) and always seating with prompt service.
Was the burger consistent with other visits? Yes. In fact, it almost seems that their burger gets better each time I go.
Of course you can’t have just a burger there…I also opted for an order of hand cut fries and we shared an order of the special cheesy tater tots. DEEELISH! My friend ordered the special burger: pastrami burger which was a HUGE chunk of pastrami, on top of the Umami burger with a nice mustard. Also, for the win, they have Mexican Coke!
If you haven’t been to Umami, GO! For your first visit be sure to get the regular Umami burger and an order of hand cut fries. You won’t be disappointed!

Umami really is delicious! Just reading this make me want to go there and eat a truffle burger! Another place that does a really good burger is Miru8691, I would love to read your thoughts about this place!
